Noch älter, noch undergroundiger:
666 (CZ)
Von denen gab es nur ein Demo mit dem Titel "Nekrofilie" (1983)
Metal-Archives:
666 is a band that rarely anybody talks about. They released one demo in 1983 and then fell into obscurity. Well, not really, this is actually Torr, a band that formed earlier and made albums later, so technically this is a sideproject. What we have on this demo is raw heavy metal obviously inspired by Venom (who wasn't inspired by Venom in 1983?).
The vocals are drunkened Czech howls, and I say that in the best way possible. Much more abrasive than Mr. Cronos' vocals, but not quite up to par with the other extreme metal vocalists of the time. The production on this demo is much better than expected. You could tell that they actually cared how it was presented. The instruments are novice, but definitely adequate. A few of the songs have memorable riffs, and great song structure. This band definitely knows how to build up a song and bring it home. Of the five songs on this demo, one stands out in both positive and negative ways. Nekrofilia is a bloated 17 minute epic that is quite comparable to At War With Satan; unfortunately, it doesn't keep your attention quite as well as the afformentioned Venom track. It's a good band rehearsal exercise, and could work in a studio with professional bells and whistles, but it doesn't cut it on this demo.
Overall, this demo is definitely a result of the spark of creative bands that bursted out in the early to mid-80's. Not essential, but an interesting listen. Download, or buy a bootleg copy if possible!
